Dear reader—
I am so glad I can finally share the first track from my new project, "desolate angel". It’s been a really challenging and long process of learning how to produce and pushing the limits of what I thought I could achieve with sound. I am hoping to share the full EP, titled Soul Meter this fall. For now, this first track is a taste of what’s to come. It was a moment of pure joy and exploration after so much frustration and failed experiments.
I felt this card was apt to name the song after due to the way I felt it the sounds shimmered and glowed. After what felt like years of uncertainty and throwing unfinished track after track away, I was finally able to piece things together after a generative period last fall. The way such a quick flood of clarity can come after banging my head against the wall is so dumbfounding that I have given up on trying to understand it. I have to keep figuring out how to release control.
Deciding to release something and share it is always turbulent for me, but I knew I had to share it in time for the Aquarius moon. I didn’t think there was a better time to share something that made me feel like I was in a cosmic dance party with aliens in space (I like to imagine them vibing to this one).
I hope the glow of this Aquarian moon finds you well,
— Ara
PS—
As you can tell, I’ve switched my mailing list to substack. I’ve imported my mailing list from tinyletter, so this shouldn’t affect anything.
I also imported my Bandcamp mailing list, so if you are reading this now, it’s because you were on that .csv list. If you’d rather opt out of this list, you can unsubscribe, no hard feelings.
This podcast with Ed O’Brien, is one of the most life affirming things I’ve heard in a long time. I thought the warmth and wisdom of his words on creativity were apt for this leo season/ aquarius moon.
I made a playlist of sounds that inspired me while working away on this project.
